If you’ve been thinking about adding a battery to your solar setup, 2025 is shaping up to be your year. With a brand-new federal rebate landing mid-year—and the strong track record of state support—solar battery storage has never been more accessible or worthwhile for Queenslanders.

The New Federal Solar Battery Rebate

From 1 July 2025, the Australian Government will launch the Cheaper Home Batteries Program—and it’s big news for homeowners, small businesses, and community groups alike.

What’s on Offer?

• Up to $372 per usable kWh, which equals around $4,000 off a standard 11–13 kWh battery.
• Batteries must be sized between 5 kWh and 50 kWh.

You can still apply if your battery is installed before July, as long as it’s not switched on until after the launch date.

• Not means-tested—so it’s open to all eligible property owners.
• Stackable with any state-based battery rebates (if/when available).
• Only one rebate per property, but multiple properties can each qualify.

What’s the State of the State Rebate?

Queensland’s Battery Booster Program paused in May 2024 after high uptake. While it’s not accepting new applications at the moment, here’s what we know:

• Previous rebate: Up to $4,000 for eligible homes, now this is increased to up to $18,500.
• Income limit: Household taxable income under $180,000.
  Requires a 6 kWh+ battery and a 5 kW+ solar system.

Must use a government-approved installer and complete a post-install safety check.
While the program is paused, future rounds are likely as the state continues to back renewables. Watch this space.
